Perfect, Everyday Rice
Serves: 4 people | 5 Minute Prep Time | 15 Minutes to Cook
Every time we have friends over, someone asks about my rice.
It’s taken me years, but I’ve finally perfected it and now it’s so craveable and a go-to when I make salmon or fish. It’s actually really easy and the difference comes down to a few simple steps: rinsing the rice, cooking it low and covered, and letting it steam off the heat at the end. That last step is the one people skip — and it’s what gives you light, fluffy, consistent results every time. I also always cook it with a teaspoon of Better Than Bouillon for flavor, plus a little butter never hurts. 😊
Pro tip: I always make double for leftovers the following day — because did you know cooling cooked rice in the fridge converts some of its starch into resistant starch?
Resistant starch acts like a prebiotic to support gut health and has a lower impact on blood sugar than freshly cooked rice, so day-old rice is actually nutritionally different from rice straight off the stove. A perfect reason to cook once, and enjoy twice!
Instructions:
- Bring water, Better Than Bouillon, olive oil, butter, and salt to a boil.
- While waiting, rinse rice thoroughly in a fine mesh strainer.
- Add rice to boiling water, reduce heat to low, and cover.
- Cook for 15–17 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes to finish steaming.
- Fluff with a fork and serve.
